Heroin Diaries: Final Thoughts
Finishing the Heroin Diaries was kind of sad but also a nice resolution. To finally hear how he quit drugs was sad the way he had to find out he wanted to get clean. But it was nice to see that he was finally getting clean and became happier and was turning his life around for the better. “One last thing...I might as well admit now. I’m done with drugs.” (pg. 390). Reading this part made me happy to see that he is done with drugs and he is changing after finally seeing what it is done to him. Sadly later on you see again that he does do drugs and doesn’t go to rehab but he does in the end quit drugs completely. The part where he is in the Japan tour is crazy. He just goes down the deep end doing so many drugs, drinking and just being stupid. He got arrested and got his manager arrested for doing stupid things. He got all his friends pissed at him and everybody was just embarrassed to be around him and to have him there. He then talks about doing stupid things like missing the flight on purpose, which he does, twice. I believe the manger, his friends, and some fans lost respect for him during the Japan tour. I think in the end he has finally got his life together and realized he does not need drugs in situations to make him happy, they only make him worse. He now has kids and others to worry about and he wants to be a good role model to them even after the multiple divorces that he has had. I enjoyed the book, it may have been a hard read, but because reading this I know that I personally will never do drugs after reading this book (even though I had no intentions on doing drugs anyways).
I loved this book personally and he tells us his story through an amazing perspective. It was a good ending to the book, I like how he followed up a little bit with a few bullet points. It was amazing when reading that he finally had quit using drugs, I could not imagine how good he must have felt after beating the odds the way he did. The japan tour was probably my favorite section of reading, for so many reasons. I thought it was hilarious that Nikki had cocaine in his sock in the holding pen of a Japanese jail. There was a section in our reading about the police officer questioning Nikki and his response was, "Where would my dick be if my balls were on your chin?" Like that is just wild. I personally feel this is Hands down best book we have gone through yet.
ReplyDeleteWhen Nikki misses the first flight, I remember reading that he did it on purpose because he was just wanting to be done. I feel that his depression, stress, along with many other factors in his life at the time that made him feel like giving up, not caring, and wanting everything to be over. I do not think he missed the flight to be an asshole or because he was being irresponsible, I believe it was another cry for help.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you mention that now Nikki has a family and others to think about, but he had people like family and others to think about back then as well. It does not matter what kind of situation one is in, if doing drugs, they will take you over no matter what place in life you are at that moment. He had responsibilities to the band, he wrote the songs, and many other responsibilities as well. His family was Motley Crue and even mentions Tommy to be like a brother, yet still, the power of drugs had imprisoned him. He was not a bad person, it was a bad choice that made him do bad things. Thus, making it extremely hard to get clean and heal the wounds. But, it can be done, and he did. Though Nikki will be fighting the addition the rest of his life whether he is literally taking drugs or not, the battle will always be there.
